Title: Network printer installation problem
Post by: Nemo23 on December 03, 2019, 04:18:25
Goodmorning everyone,
I use a raspberrypi 4 with on Raspbian as home server, to this server I would like to connect my samsung printer 1665 ml to be able to print remotely ... I installed cups and downloaded the ppd and rastertospl files from the site ... I gave permission with :

sudo chmod 755 /usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertospl
chown root:root /usr/lib/cups/filter
chown root:root /usr/lib/cups/backend

and installed the printer through cups graphic interface ... when I go to print I get the following error: "File "/usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertospl" has insecure permissions (0100755/uid=1000/gid=1000)."

I then followed the guide on the forum, inserted the new line and updated the repository, but I receive this:

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ sudo apt update
Hit:1 http://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian buster InRelease
Hit:2 http://raspbian.raspberrypi.org/raspbian buster InRelease
Hit:3 https://www.bchemnet.com/suldr debian InRelease

This driver will not work with the Raspberry Pi 4, no matter how you try to install it.  The issue is that the driver for ARM processors is built only for much older processers than the type used in the Raspberry Pi.

There is some evidence that the printer may work if you install the splix driver (printer-driver-splix package), and set it up as a ML-1660 printer.  This method should be compatible with the Raspberry Pi.

Where can I download this package?

It is part of the standard Debian and Raspbian repository, so you should be able to install it the same way as any other package.

Sorry, I had asked the wrong question, I wanted to know where to get the ppd file, instead I download it myself ... I installed the package and reinstalled the printer via cups and now it works! Thanks
