Scanning / SCX 3400 networked
December 14, 2019, 05:06:19
Hi everybody,

so far I had my SCX-3400 connected via USB to my ubuntu 18.04.3. Everything was fine via USB: scanning as well as printing.

Kids and wife asked to use the MFP via network, so I bought a TP-Link PS310U, connected it to the MFP and the router. Printing works. Simple Scan however, doesn't find any device. The MFP has the following address: dnssd://samsung%20electronics%20co.,%20ltd.%20scx-3400%20series-20dfdf._printer._tcp.local/

I run netdiscovery, but couldn't find it:

pasqualino@Asus:~$ /opt/Samsung/mfp/bin/netdiscovery -all --scanner
# DEBUG: Network printers discovery utility

My installed suld  packages are:
suld-driver-3.00.65 (version 3.00.65-4)
suld-network-2 (version 4.00.39-2)
suld-ppd-1 (version 4.00.39-2)

What can I do? Should I try the network-1 package?

Thanks

So, we had our remote session and everthing is fine now.

Basically, it boils down to this:

- Have the correct SULDR package version installed;
- Have /lib/udev/rules.d/60-libsane1.rules edited as explained;
- Make sure user accounts are part of lp group;

Cheers!

Try again replacing the driver packages (see the above).

Let me know about your timezone; maybe we can do a videocall and I can help you doing things while you share your screen with me.

To avoid misunderstandings:

1) You should edit the 60-libsane1.rules file, which is located in /lib/udev/rules.d/ (You're mentioning a .desktop file, that doesn't sound correct to me). You need to be a superuser to do so (sudo).
2) Have the appropriate packages from suldr installed. These are: suldr-driver 3.00.65 version 4, suld-network 2, and suld ppd 1. Make sure you follow setting up Suldr's repository as explained here https://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/

@Suldr: it's a damn pity you're shutting this down. Is there anything we/I can do to prevent this?

That line seems not correct. Check the one I've posted earlier. It should read exactly as there (except for the # comments).

Check if lib/udev/rules.d/60-libsane1.rules got overwritten (see above) and report back.

pasqualino@Asus:~$ ls -l /dev/bus/usb/003/
insgesamt 0
crw-rw-r-- 1 root root 189, 256 Sep  3 19:16 001
crw-rw-r-- 1 root root 189, 257 Sep  3 19:16 002
crw-rw-r-- 1 root root 189, 258 Sep  3 19:16 003

001 is owned by root.

I installed 'members'. From terminal

pasqualino@Asus:~$ members lp
lp hplip pasqualino barbara

pasqualino is me. This is odd. I tried now and it worked! I didn't change anything, I restart quite often this morning, and now it just works?!?

Thanks!

Scanning / SCX 3400 on ubuntu 18.04.1
September 03, 2018, 02:09:36
Printer Model = SCX-3400
Linux distro = ubuntu 18.04.1
USB connected
suldr-driver 3.00.65 version 4
suld-network 2
suld ppd 1

I have upated my distro from 16.04 to 18.04 (the above driver version worked flawlessy with the old distro), and now have problems making the scanner work. SimpleScan does not have any scanner entry, VueScan doesn't work neither.

sane-find-scanner yields
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04e8 [Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.], product=0x344f [SCX-3400 Series]) at libusb:003:004
could not open USB device 0x1d6b/0x0002 at 003:001: Access denied (insufficient permissions)

I don't know about the permission problem above. My user is part of lp.

Edited /lib/udev/rules.d/60-libsane1.rules by adding
# Samsung SCX-3400
ATTRS{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTRS{idProduct}=="344f", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

Still to no avail. Any hint?

Thanks

Hi,

I own a Samsung SCX-3400 MFP and have a good experience with Ubuntu since 12.04 and SULDR packages :)
A friend of mine switched to Linux too recently, and needs a MFP as well. Samsung now sells the M2070 as low budget MFP. I was looking for posts in the Scanning forum and saw that there're some serious issues with scanning and the M2070, right?

Which other current Samsung MFP models would you recommend with Linux and SULDR, where printing and scanning work like a charm?
Thank you.

Hello,

using ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit with Samsung SCX-3400 and SULDR-packages.
If I use latest driver (4.01.17), I'm able to scan and print documents, pdfs, but not image files (e.g. printing jpegs will fail, i.e. goes to queue and then vanishes).
Viceversa, if I downgrade to 3.00.65, I'm able to print everything, but scanning will fail when attempting to get a scan preview (after a few seconds when the scan starts "Error during read: Error during device I/O") with xsane.

Thanks in advance

I've discovered that the driver installation isn't the cause: 1 of 5 boot ups have some problem (audio card not working, video takes time to adjust).

When this not occurs, the printer works like a charm.

Update 06/05/2013:

I've this known bug on my system (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/459445); when it occurs (1 out of 10 times), the entire OS becomes pretty unstable, hence I can't make any assumptions.

Right now I'm "stable", tried to print pdf, but it doesn't work: the print job goes into the queue and vanishes - it reappears under completed jobs. LibreOffice prints are executed.
Will test previous version(s) and report back.

Update 08/06/2013:
Driver version 3.0.0.65-1 prints!

Hello,

I did follow this procedure (http://www.gaggl.com/2012/04/installing-samsung-multifunction-printer-ubuntu-11-10) but have a partial success: test page prints, as well as pure text document from libreoffice. But JPeGs and documents containing pictures are not printed. I see these jobs ending in queue, processing, but then they vanish, queue vanishes as well and the printer doesn't react at all.

The instructions above are for 11.10 - but I found that same apply to 12.04.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
