Unable to add printer (CLX-3305fn)

I've updated to the new suld drivers, but my CLX-3305fn isn't being recognised.

I'm running Ubuntu 13.04, with KDE. Using the configurator with the 4.00.39 driver offers no printers to select when the configurator loads initially. Clicking "Add" gives me the first dialog of the add printer wizard (do you want to add a printer?) after quite a long delay, but the wizard crashes when I click "Next".

Using the 4.01.17 driver and the newer configurator gets further in the add printer wizard (it doesn't crash, basically) but no local printers are found.

Any possible pointers greatly appreciated.

Can you add the printer using the standard KDE or CUPS interface instead of the Configurator?

Sorry for the long delay in replying.

The printer isn't listed under local printers in either the KDE CUPS frontend or in the CUPS web interface either.

Sounds like either a hardware problem or an issue with the USB subsystem.  If it worked with an earlier version of Ubuntu, it's a bug you should file through Launchpad.  Same if the printer works hooked up to another computer and you can generally use USB devices on your computer.

The crash with the older configurator makes me suspect a system bug somewhere, because the older version has generally been stable and it's the new one that is less reliable.

You're right! It was a USB problem. A change of position for the printer was all that was needed.

Thanks a million.
