Hi,

does this drivers support the CJX-1050W InkJet wireless printer over WiFi? I couldn't get it running nor found any driver which supports this printer.
I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x86_64 running.

Short answer: no.

Long answer:
I had no idea until you posted that Samsung was trying again with inkjet printers (they've been out of that market a long time).  Apparently they are really rebranded Kodak printers:
http://blogs.democratandchronicle.com/business/?p=1235

And Kodak has never supported Linux:
http://support.en.kodak.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1698/kw/linux/selected/true

The Samsung Germany site also gives no indication of any Linux support for the inkjet models.  At least one open-source driver is available for Kodak printers:
http://cupsdriverkodak.sourceforge.net/

I have no idea if that driver will work with the Samsung-branded printers or not, but it may be your only shot at something that will work.

If you try the Kodak driver, or if you try something else that works, please share.  I will update the website with a note about the CJX printers.

Edit: this link suggests that these are ESP-line printers, and so the Kodak driver might work: http://www.action-intell.com/2012/04/27/kodak-samsung-form-alliance-samsung-launches-inkjet-units-in-germany/

Hi,

thanks for this fast replay and hey this helped me a lot.
I didn't know that this printer was compatible with the Kodak ESP line.

I removed all SULDR packages and choose the Network printer in Ubuntu printer settings, then select the available Kodak ESP C310 and it works like a charm.
Ubuntu test page was printed fine and also a test of PDF document was ok.

Now printing looks ok, but is there a chance to get the scanning to work?

bchemnet

Maybe.  Try the solution in the last question on the scanning troubleshooting page (just posted):
http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/scanning.html#8

If it works, please post the values from sane-find-scanner so I can include those.

homer

Hi,

I test the scanner with manual configuration, but it doesn't work. Ouput from sane-find-scanner:

found USB scanner (vendor=0x04e8 [Samsung], product=0x3946 [CJX-1050W]) at libusb:002:003

bchemnet

Maybe it's using the Xerox backend?  Try the similar solution in the third bullet for http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/scanning.html#3 .

Or less likely, perhaps it uses the smfp backend that is provided with the Unified Driver?  You could try re-installing the samsungmfp-scanner package and then add the printer to the smfp backend in a similar manner.  (You don't need to change the printer configuration.)

If that doesn't work, I suppose you can try other backends at random, but most likely it simply isn't supported.

homer

I have tested several configurations, but the scanner would not work, sane does not see this scanner.

bchemnet

I'm sorry to hear that.  At the moment, I don't have any other ideas.  I will have monitor what Samsung/Kodak provide as drivers to see if it can be made to work, and support may also be added by someone working on the sane project and made available in a later sane version.
