SCX-5315F "Filter failed"

Hello,

Printer: SCX-5315F
System: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS (trusty)
Connection: USB
Driver version: 3.00.37

My problem is that I get "Filter failed" from CUPS whenever printing. The model was not indicated to be supported, but I managed to add as a printer from Ubuntu Add printer interface. Then there was no filter at all in /usr/lib/cups/filter/rastertosamsungspl and it was missing it. I found one on the net and copied/chown/chmod/chgrp.

I think this printer is similar to the SCX-5312F. Have you tried adding your printer as a 5312F and seeing if it works?

Thank you, I tried, but it doesn't seem to react. I don't see any error messages in CUPS or in print queue.

The only other idea I can offer is to try with the 3.00.65 driver.

If that also fails in the combinations you have tried, it may be that this printer is only supported by the Windows driver. A few Samsung printers seem to have this issue.

Unfortunately no reply. However, the other method ("gutenprint" / SCX-5x30 Series) now prints, but only strange characters, not the expected document.

Now I ran "uninstall" and install "gutenprint" again. It detected the printer as "generic" and now it seems to work just fine.

Only scanning function is missing.

Some information about the scanner: "sudo sane-find-scanner" said

"sudo scanimage -L" said:

Everything ran OK, but neither "xsane", nor "simple-scan" cannot recognize it.
