Hello,

I'm using ubuntu 12.04 and have just got a samsung ML-2165w printer. I've installed the samsung driver from the repository

~$ uname -a
Linux billybong 3.2.0-32-generic-pae #51-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 26 21:54:23 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

I can see and print to it over USB, but any grayscale image file larger than about a megabyte silently fails - it just vanishes from the print queue - for example a 1600x1100 pixel image fails, but about half of it copied to a new file prints fine.  (Haven't tried with RGB file)

I looked in CUPS log at /var/log/cups/error_log where there were heaps of errors, but they all seem to relate to finding the correct driver from the set in samsungmfp-driver, a sample is copied below

Any help would be much appreciated

I should that I printed from gimp and also attempted to print one of the failed bitmaps from inkscape, which failed there as well

I have always had an issue similar to this with my printer, with all versions (back to the old version 2); it simply will not print files over a certain size.  In short, I don't know what causes this.  But you may be able to make it work with some trial and error.

You can try different versions of the printer, or try to switch to a different printer model for large file prints.  It takes some trial and error, and print quality may suffer somewhat.

It may help to have the file in the native format of the printer.  In my case, that means creating a PS file directly rather than having the printer software do the conversion sometimes helps (because it generates a smaller file).  With current SPL printers, that is more likely to be PDF.  A different PDF rendering, such the samsungmfp-driver-pdf-fix package provides, could also work for you.
