(As an aside I'd like to say that the password requirements for this forum are quite strict...)

I'm on Ubuntu 12.10 (Amd64) and have an SCX-3200.

Scanning and printing used to work fine, but after some (?) software upgrades scanning no longer works.

I tried driver versions 3.00.90, 4.00.35 and 4.00.39. I also tried those suggestions from the Scanning Troubleshooting page that seemed appropriate.

i@blep:~ $ scanimage -L
device `xerox_mfp:libusb:002:007' is a Samsung Samsung SCX-3200 Series multi-function peripheral
device `smfp:SAMSUNG SCX-3200 Series on USB:0' is a SAMSUNG SCX-3200 Series on USB:0 Scanner

I usually use a script that calls "scanimage -p" and then converts the PBM data using ImageMagick. Now scanimage gets stuck at 1.5% progress and eats up all cpu cycles.
Xsane shows a similar problem: scanning seems to start, judging from the noises from the device, but then the program just locks up at 100% cpu utilization.

When I stop scanimage (Ctrl-C) and start it again, I get the following error:
scanimage: open of device smfp:SAMSUNG SCX-3200 Series on USB:0 failed: Error during device I/O

This is the output from dmesg:

So apparently the fault is not with SULD.

I did the following things to get it working:

* uninstall samsung-mfp-scanner
* uninstall colord

And now printing and scanning work! Yay me! :-)

Well, the problem might still be with the driver, but not the printer portion.  Without the scanner package, your scanner is using a different controller for the scanner instead of the Samsung one.  Regardless, I'm glad it works.

As to your aside: I know the password requirements are strict, but it cuts way down on the spambots.
