I am using Ubuntu 12.10. The printer is connected via network and can be reached via ping and browser.  At first, I had installed the official Samsung Unified driver, but it did not work. So, I had deinstalled the driver according to http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/smfpv3.html.
Then, I installed samsungmfp-data samsungmfp-driver samsungmfp-scanner samsungmfp-network successfully. When I start the printer configuration, the printer gets discovered and I can select the driver. The printer is then in paused mode. I can resume it (changes to idle) and request a test page nothing happens.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Double-check to make sure an appropriate ppd appears to be installed.  It may be necessary to delete the printer and re-install it.

It may also help to try a manual lp print, as in this post: http://www.bchemnet.com/suldr/forum/index.php?topic=59.0 .  For some reason, that seems to clear an initial block in some setups.

Thanks for your help.
Installing via CUPS web interface using the ppd that was under /etc/cups/ppd did the trick. Scanning works as well. Great work!
